Speed Limit Reduction
A message from the La Marque Police Department. This change in speed limits is scheduled to go into effect on August 2019 and will last for the duration of the freeway expansion project.
The City of La Marque, at the request of the Texas Department of Transportation, has reduced the speed limit on Interstate 45 from FM 1765 to FM 519. Additionally, the Texas Department of Transportation has lowered the speed limit on Interstate 45 between FM 1765 and FM 1764.
The speed limit reduction was requested in anticipation of the freeway expansion project that is already underway in areas north of La Marque. The project in La Marque is estimated to last more than two years.
The speed limit on the main lanes of Interstate 45 will be reduced from 65 MPH to 55 MPH and the speed limit on the frontage roads will be reduced from 50 MPH to 45 MPH. This change in speed limits is scheduled to go into effect in August 2019 and will last for the duration of the freeway expansion project.
Safety of the citizens living in, working in and traveling through La Marque is our first priority, along with the safety of the crews working on our roadways. We are asking that all citizens pay close attention to the speed limits while traveling along Interstate 45. Also, pay attention to Construction Zones. Traffic fines increase for speeding in Construction Zones when workers are present. Please drive safely and attentively.
