Keep Texas Beautiful Affiliate

The Keep La Marque Beautiful Commission earned recognition in the prestigious Keep Texas Beautiful 2020 Governor’s Community Achievement Awards in Category 5, which is for cities with a population of 15,001 to 25,000. The Commission earned second place designation for their growing efforts in the areas of community outreach, cleanup events, engagement and education. Congrats, KLMBC! WE ARE PROUD OF YOU!

La Marque City Council appoints the Commission members and the programs are funded by Council each year. Members include Chairman Joe Compian, Alanah Brown, Kathy Herrin, Rebecca Mould, Terry Pettijohn, Tracie Steans and Kimberley Yancy.

Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB) is a network of dedicated Texans working together to make our state the best place to live, work and play. We equip local partners and affiliates with the tools they need to build vibrant, engaged communities. Founded in 1967, Keep Texas Beautiful has more than 50 years of experience deploying resources for local clean-up, recycling, and youth engagement efforts. Everything we do is focused on mobilizing volunteers to take action across the state. As a 501(c)3 nonprofit, we lead 382 affiliates and reach 19 million Texans annually. We are proudly based in Austin, Texas. KTB is also a certified state affiliate of Keep America Beautiful.

Don’t mess with Texas

In 1985, Keep Texas Beautiful became a state affiliate of Keep America Beautiful (KAB), a non-profit organization with a national network of nearly 1,000 affiliates and participating organizations working together to improve communities through litter prevention, waste reduction, and beautification. They combine education with hands-on stewardship to address the needs of communities on an intensely local and effective level.

Since joining the KAB affiliate system, KTB has won top honors as an outstanding KAB state affiliate and has grown its reach by creating an extensive affiliate program modeled after KAB's. KTB now has the largest environmental and community improvement network in the state, with more than 390 community affiliates. Of those, 66 are also certified as affiliates of KAB.

KTB affiliates with Good Standing status or better are encouraged to consider becoming a Keep America Beautiful certified affiliate. Please email Sarah Nichols for more information.


Texas Department of TransportationTexas Department of Transportation

Keep Texas Beautiful and the Texas Department of Transportation first began working together in the late 1960s, sharing the common goals of making Texas roadways attractive and safe for motorists and encouraging tourism, goals which have remained more than 40 years.


Since 1985, Keep Texas Beautiful has partnered through an annual contract with the Texas Department of Transportation to support TxDOT's anti-litter and beautification programs such as Don't mess with Texas Trash-Off and the Governor's Community Achievement Awards (GCAA). KTB has recognized outstanding communities for 24 years via the GCAA program, with TxDOT providing the landscape awards since 1985.

Moreover, TxDOT administers the highly successful Texas Adopt-a-Highway program and has helped support the state's specialty license plate program, which is administered by the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles. Both programs serve as fantastic ways to show your commitment to Keep Texas Beautiful.

The Ocean Conservancy works to protect the ocean from today's greatest global challenges and is partnered with Keep Texas Beautiful via their International Coastal Cleanup (ICC), the world's largest volunteer effort to improve the health of the world's oceans and local waterways. This partnership leverages the unique resources of each organization that will assure progress as we seek to increase public awareness and volunteer activity in protecting our waterways and inland spaces.

Texas Children in Nature (TCiN) envisions that all children and their families, from all walks of life, will spend more time outdoors, engaged with nature for a healthier, happier, smarter Texas. Keep Texas Beautiful works to actively support and integrate the fundamental principles of this organization into our youth programming across the state. We are also a member of the regional Austin-based TCiN network and support youth nature-based activities through Nature Rocks Texas.

By working toward our mission of increasing recycling rates in Texas, for Texans, STAR is able to support economic growth, job creation, and resource conservation. They build and support end markets by coordinating stakeholders to find common ground through information sharing and partnerships that get recyclable materials to market. Through data-driven advocacy, they shape and define the future of materials management by facilitating discussion that leads to action.


Scenic TexasScenic Texas

Scenic Texas, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of our state's visual environment, particularly as seen by the traveling public. Scenic Texas is an affiliate of Scenic America.
